My Story

Growing up as a little black girl on Long Island NY, I have always had a fascination with natural products, most specifically natural products for kinky textured hair. Back then I longed for a product that was simple, effective, and not loaded with chemicals.

Since then, the natural haircare industry has definitely expanded and there are many companies that offer natural haircare products. However, I have yet to find a natural hair company who caters to tightly kinky coiled textured hair and that not only focuses on providing mega moisture to the hair, but also rejuvenating, healing scalp health.
I have found that these two elements are key to retaining growth and having healthy hair: Great scalp health and Moisture packed hair strands.

I have always had dry scalp, and a little dandruff. However, over the years my scalp has become increasingly dry, inflamed and irritated. I started to develop seborrheic dermatitis around the edges of my hair, which eventually ‘spread’ to the middle of my hair. No amount of washing and conditioning helped, my scalp would return to its red, inflamed condition after a day of washing and conditioning. This condition is super annoying because you have constant flakes and scales in your hair despite washing it.

It is very embarrassing, I started to feel insecure and would take hours sometimes in the mirror trying to ‘brush the flakes away’. Finally I’d had enough, common sense told me that there must be a natural remedy for this ailment. I literally have spent years of researching on the matter and came to realize that three main ingredients may help relieve my condition: Apple cider vinegar, Pulp and juices from the aloe plant and tea tree oil. Bingo! But how can I mix these ingredients together to find the perfect balance for me? Well, that is when I entered the ‘experimentation’ phase. I experimented with different portions, dilutions, mixes etc until I found the perfect balance of ingredients along with additional moisturizing butters, oils and herbs to finally relieve and rid my scalp seborrheic dermatitis!

The top main ingredients in my haircare line consists of the raw, pulp and juices straight from the aloe leaf. Aloe is a type of succulent plant, hence the name of the company: SucculentRoots!

I wish to share my knowledge and what I have learned over the years to help others who are dealing with/experiencing the same scalp condition that I once had and to overall bring relief and a permanent solution to the issue.

SucculentRoots produces fresh, quality natural hair products, from our mixing bowls to your door.
